Aries Magic
Aries kicks off our Zodiac Series and is the first sign of the zodiac, explaining why Arians have the desire to be first and lead the way in everything they do. It not only begins the Astrological New Year, but for many pagans it also starts the Wheel of the Year with Ostara, the magical holiday celebrating the vernal or spring equinox. Ostara celebrates harmony, fertility, and rebirth, when life returns to the earth, the first of two equinoxes in the year when the number of daylight hours is equal to the number of nighttime hours. As we move through Aries season the days get longer and warmer as the fiery sign of Aries brings the heat to forge new creations and start new ventures. Aries season runs roughly March 20/21 – April 19/20, the dates may vary based on when the Sun moves into the sign and there may be slight variances from year to year. This is why it’s important for those born on a cusp to determine their sign based on when the sun transitioned for their birth year.

Aries Sun
First, each sign of the zodiac has 30° (360° divided by the 12 signs), within that there are 3 sections of 10°. Those born in the first 10° of Aries are active and go-getting, only influenced by Aries and Mars. Those born in the second 10° are more organized and dignified, because of the influence of Leo and the Sun, however, they are still energetic and active. Those born in the third 10° are more influenced by their sub-rulers Sagittarius and Jupiter, making them more exuberant and generous.
Those with an Aries Sun sign will make it their life purpose to prove themselves through acts of bravery, courage and strength. They are bold risk-takers and adventurers who aren’t afraid to try new things. Driven towards new and better horizons, they possess a youthful, bright, ambitious, enthusiastic, and confident energy, they often take the lead for others to easily follow. As a Cardinal sign, they have a forward moving and pioneering spirit; they love to start new things, especially anything innovative and fresh, the struggle for them is to stay focused to get things finished. Self-employment can bring happiness if they have the self-discipline for it. The day-to-day monotony of a job will feel soul sucking for an Aries unless they are fortunate enough to work somewhere that piques their interests or keeps them motivated.
As a Fire sign, Aries can be brash and completely unafraid, ramming its way through life with a strong fiery passion and an independent attitude. Hot headed and sometimes reckless, their fiery temper sparks and ignites quickly when they are angered; they also have a daredevil side and tend to get themselves into dangerous situations without a safety net. Being impatient, Aries are also drawn to shortcuts as they prefer to get to the point quickly and want to arrive fast, also making them speed demons. This impatience may also lead to them getting enraged by any minor inconveniences and they can become bored when situations become repetitive or take too long. They also have a tendency to get wrapped up in money schemes and like to spend money as quickly as they get it. Unless the Aries also have some Taurus qualities, they will have to learn how to save money and how to put up boundaries around their generosity.
Ruled by Mars, Aries are all about action. They love to make last minute plans, especially when it comes to vacations and travel. Exercise and physical activity are always beneficial to them as they are the athletes of the zodiac, thriving on competition and challenges. Aries people are lively, intense, powerful and productive, they play just as hard as they work and they like to sweat; they also like making other people sweat. Mars also makes Aries always ready for battle and their competitive and aggressive nature makes it almost impossible for them to back down from a fight. They need to be careful though, because they can turn that competitive nature on themselves, causing internal conflict and making the opponent themselves. They can also be direct, sharp, piercing, forceful, and pushy when need be, which can make them a valuable ally or formidable opponent.
Aries Sun signs strive for their own personal firsts and wins as well, like being the first in their families to own a home or go to college, becoming successful in their careers, or even breaking toxic generational cycles. They have a strong idealistic streak, always hoping for the best, and a resilient nature which allows them to bounce back from disappointments. The ram’s blunt nature, combative personality, and hot temper may burn plenty of bridges, but once they burn through all that fire, there’s a sensitive, vulnerable, almost childlike interior that makes them so easy to love. They have an endearing naive quality and appreciate even the smallest gestures because they feel everything so intensely, that is part of the Aries’ magic. When they embrace their natural gifts of confidence, enthusiasm, honesty, and optimism, they burn so brightly they can change the world. The Aries Sun must learn the life long spiritual lesson that not every interaction is a competition to be won and that peace can be a victory.
Those with an Aries Sun are sociable and outgoing and enjoy being with friends. Sex is usually an important part of their life as they are highly passionate and enjoy the thrill of the chase. They also have a romantic soul and want to be cherished and hope to fall deeply in love with someone. Once they do fall in love they will be completely faithful and devoted as they love a “happily ever after”. To avoid frustration and resentment, anyone in an Aries relationship will want to make sure their partner never feels held back or restricted. Even in relationships, they like to keep their sense of self and independence, but they will also be a strong supporter of their partner. They tend to be compassionate and forgiving, but watch for their temper to flare if you make them mad. Aries enjoy being at home because they like familiar surroundings but can tire of it quickly, especially if they start to feel trapped or taken for granted.
With Aries ruling the head, Aries children can be clumsy and accident prone, bumping their heads, or biting their tongues. As adults, they can still have issues like nosebleeds, earaches, and headaches. Dehydration and too much sunshine can lead to overheating or even sunstrokes, making proper hydration vital for Aries. Most of them enjoy hot and spicy foods with secret addictions to chilies and curries, making hydration a must anyways. They tend to lean towards foods that keep their metabolism fired up and most, not all, are meat eaters who like beverages like beer, cherry juice, cider, orange juice, and red wine.
Finally, let’s talk about magic. Any one with Aries in their “big three” may find they feel extra magical during the spring season. They may also be drawn towards the fire element, adding their fiery passion to boost their spells and leaning more towards candle magic and ritual bonfires. They will also be successful with spells that require swift action or overcoming barriers, as Aries energy can usually push through any obstacles. Those with an Aries Sun sign will be great at spells for healing, reversing bad luck, winning competitions, bringing in and gathering resources, gaining independence, strengthening their psychic abilities, success in business, and protection and defensive magic. They will find they are also skilled at divination, past life rituals and readings, locating lost objects, and cord cutting rituals. They may find they have a harder time with magic for concentration, selflessness, truth, or justice.

Aries Moon
There is a fire blazing in the heart of every Aries Moon. The Moon signs are how emotions are processed and the heat of the Aries Moon warms the heart when the world seems cold, and motivates to keep moving forward when all seems lost. They long to take on new and exciting adventures and challenges in order to feel alive, it’s the thrill of the chase that keeps them going. They tend to thrive on the edge of danger when the stakes are high. Do not try to tame an Aries Moon’s heart, they feel safest with absolute freedom, no restrictions, and no interference from authority figures. They may find themselves in unhealthy relationships as their big hearts and youthful optimism will keep them wanting to see the best in others. Once they learn to break free from their psychic and emotional prisons, it will fuel instantaneous change and the power to release bad habits and negative relationships.
Blessed with an abundance of passion, enthusiasm, and courage, Aries Moon witches are at their best when they can be independent in their craft. They make strong and confident solitary witches with an optimistic view of what they can achieve. They like taking action and have an inner flame that burns brightly. They need space to freely burn or they will torch the world and anyone in their path. At their worst, these witches will become singularly focused and allow their magic to become impulsive. Their impatience for their desire will manifest as having a hard time waiting for their spells to work. If the Aries Moon is not careful, they will burn their inner candle at both ends and risk becoming extinguished. This kind of magical and emotional burnout can lead to depression and force them to rest until their phoenix heart is sparked and once again ignited.
Aries Moon witches are most likely to take on leadership roles within the community and will protect and defend those under them. They have the discipline to lead, and help others to cultivate their inner strength and self discipline. They are skilled at performing road opening rituals, especially for emotional roadblocks, and spells which help to create new personal goals and freedoms. Spells for drawing attention and/or good fortune are their forte, as well as banishing or strengthening any weaknesses. They are excellent at creating wards and powerful in generating internal changes in themselves and others. They also possess a magic that initiates new and exciting adventures in their life, and in the lives of those around them.
Aries Rising
Those with Aries as their Rising sign have a fiery aura that can’t be ignored. They definitely like to stay active and busy, they leave onlookers wondering how they have the energy to be constantly on the move. An Aries Rising does not have the patience to worry or second guess themselves as they jump from one venture to the next. With their honest, direct, and straightforward nature it may seem like they are looking for a fight, but once you get to know this rising sign you’ll find they are passionate and brave with a tender side. But don’t let that fool you, they are independent enough to be ok with a close knit, small circle of friends they love and trust, rather than a large group of acquaintances they don’t really relate to.
They are also just fine being alone if that’s what it takes to reach their goal. They will go for glory at all costs and will not back down. To an Aries Rising, the harder they have to fight and the more they struggle, simply means the sweeter the fruits of their labor will be and they’ll be glowing from their success. If by chance they get knocked down they will be getting up again, and they’ll be all the more ready for round two. They tend to be most comfortable in a gym, where they can workout their problems and burn off some extra energy. This is where an Aries Rising can meditate to find enlightenment through hard work, dedication, mental discipline and a lot of sweating; they are probably least likely to be seen in a temple or church.
The spiritual side of an Aries Rising will battle anything that gets in the way of their religious freedoms and highest ideals. They long to see a global spiritual evolution and will fight against inequality, stereotypes, outdated concepts, and oppression. Depending on how they feel at the moment, they may show up as a destructive wildfire, or they may be a torch bringing light to the dark parts of the world. With practice, an Aries Rising witch will be great at traveling the astral planes, working fire magic, and crafting their own spells. They will make very exciting and deeply passionate teachers of witchcraft as they have a natural gift with the process of initiation and a profound and intimate love with the spirituality at the heart of the craft. Many of these witches will be solitary practitioners if they are unable to lead their own coven.
