Moon Magic

Working with the moon cycles gives your magic an extra boost of lunar energy. You can combine and use as much of this information as you like to incorporate into you magical timing. When your need to do magic is urgent and cannot wait for the proper moon phase, planetary position or day of the week, remember its ok to just DO THE MAGIC! All magical information is just that, information; they are suggestions made to help you align and build the energy needed for your spell crafting. At the end of the day, your intention, belief and dedication is what brings the magic to life, not the tools, properties, supplies, etc. Try practicing with the information below to see what type of results you get, it helps to keep a magical journal or Book of Shadows (BOS) to record your spells and the results.

Moon Phases

New Moon

The New Moon is when the moon is not visible in the sky, also know as the Dark Moon. The moon is 0-45 degrees ahead of the sun and stays in this phase for 3.5 days. Focus magic and intentions on beginnings, fresh starts, impulses, and regaining strength. Focus on new projects, creativity, and manifesting magic that draws things to you; as the moon grows larger so will the energy for your spell work. Your personal psychic energy will also be growing during this time and you find you are more sensitive to others’ energies. The Maiden aspect and energy of the Goddess is present during this moon phase.

Waxing Crescent

Waxing Crescent moon energy is all about movement and action, lasting from 3.5 to 7 days after the New Moon. The moon is 45-90 degrees ahead of the sun. You will still notice the increasing of your psychic energy during this phase. Magic preformed during this moon phase should be focused on forward progress and movement, being clear on intentions and hopes while also allowing room for growth and change that will support your manifesting. Maiden energy is still available during this phase.

First Quarter

First Quarter marks the half way point between the New Moon and Full Moon. The moon will appear half full and is 90-135 degrees ahead of the sun; lasting 7 to 10.5 days from the New Moon. Magic can be focused on shaping energies, clearing obstacles, taking action, making decisions, and building up energy to manifest you desires. By this point your intentions and action plan should be firmed up for what you are manifesting. This is a great day to start 7 days spells that will end on the Full Moon and bring your desires into reality. During this moon phase the energy of the Maiden starts to transition to that of the Mother.

Waxing Gibbous

At 135-180 degrees ahead of the sun the Waxing Gibbous moon is between 10.5 to 14 days after the New Moon. Emotions, instincts, intuition, clairvoyance, and precognitive dreams will be heightened during this time as we draw closer to the Full Moon. Use the energy available to focus in on details and personal growth, reevaluate your personal beliefs and energy to check you are in alignment with that which you are manifesting; work out where you may have crossed energies to be cleared. Use this energy full of magical potential to perform 3 day spells which will end on the Full Moon. The Mother energy of the Goddess is getting stronger during this moon phase.

Full Moon

The Mother aspect and energy of the Goddess is fully present during the Full Moon. At 180-225 degrees ahead of the sun, the Full Moon is from 14 to 17.5 days after the New Moon marking the half way point in the moon cycle. The Full Moon is a time of completion, harvesting, opportunities, and illumination. Your psychic senses may be working over time during the Full Moon. This is an excellent time for any type of divination work and to add maximum magical power to any and all spell work. There are some witches that believe you should not work magic during a Full Moon or New Moon and prefer to tap into the energy 2-3 days before and after these moons, experiment for yourself to decide how best you harness this available energy for spell crafting.

Waning Gibbous

As the moon begins to Wan it is 225-270 degrees ahead of the sun and is 3.5 to 7 days after the Full Moon. During the Waning Gibbous, lunar energy asks you to start going within and pay attention to your dreams, intuition, instincts, and gut feelings. Pay close attention your thoughts and messages you receive via your clairaudient abilities. Magic during this moon phase should focus inward on banishing any negativity, outdated beliefs, bad habits or obstacles in your way, and applying lessons and new information learned prior to the Full Moon. Here the Mother Goddess energy starts to transition to the Crone Goddess energy.

Last Quarter

The Last Quarter Moon marks the half way point between the Full Moon and the New Moon and occurs 7 to 10.5 days after the Full Moon at 270-315 degrees ahead of the sun. The lunar energy available during this time for magical use is destructive energy; so destroying and dissolving problems and situations, and to go inward to release old energy, emotional/mental/physical/spiritual wounds, and forgiving yourself and others. For serious issues that need to be banished now is a good time to start your 7 day spells which will end the day before the New Moon or on the New Moon. The Crone aspect and energy of the Goddess can be felt during this time.

Waning Crescent

As the moon decreases and makes its way to the end of its cycle it reaches 315-360 degrees ahead of the sun. From 10.5 to 14 days after the Full Moon the Crone energy is in full affect as we reach the Dark Moon or Balsamic Moon. This time is all about resting, surrendering, letting go, and allowing time and space for deep healing. Use this time to work magic for extreme protection, binding, and banishing. Call on the Warrior aspect of the Goddess when working these magics as the Crone energy gives way to the Maiden. Now is also the time to start 3 day spells that will end on the final day of the moon cycle, before the next cycle begins with the New Moon moving into 1 degrees. Psychic abilities may seem to slow down during this time, while other psychic senses that focus inward may be increased, such as empathy and psychometry.
